PORTLAND STREET MEDICINE

Portland Street Medicine provides quality medical care to Portlanders who are facing unstable housing or are sleeping on the streets. They meet people where they live: in tents, in camps, in forests, under bridges...wherever humanity seeks shelter. They collaborate with community health care partners to improve access primary care, behavioral and addiction services that are appropriate and culturally sensitive. They are dedicated to community engagement acting as a beacon of Portland's spirit of innovation, open mindedness, and ability to solve problems honestly and directly. In addition to serving patients, they offer the Portland provider community a unique opportunity to serve and to give, with empathy and humility.

The One Percent Project gifted a $10,000 grant to provide additional support of their mission.

NAYA family center

For over forty years, The Native American Youth & Family Center has worked to enrich the lives of Native youth and families through education, community involvement, and culturally specific programming. NAYA Family Center offers a holistic set of services designed to create stability in the lives of youth and families. They provide educational services, cultural arts programming, and direct support to reduce poverty to the Portland Metropolitan Area Native American community. As a social service agency and community center, NAYA Family Center serves the community with a diverse array of programming to meet the needs of everyone within it—from youth to elders.

The One Percent Project provided NAYA a $15,000 grant to support their mission.

DON’T SHOOT PDX

Don’t Shoot Portland is an arts and education organization that promotes social justice and civic participation. They advocate for community members facing racism and discrimination by providing legal representation and direct advocacy. Since its inception in 2016, Don’t Shoot Portland has hosted dialogues, community forums and workshops focusing on history, archiving and social culture. They facilitate discussions about race in America using arts programming as a communicative tool, while providing educational assets to those most affected by discrimination in public policy. Their community action plan provides direct essential resources, legal advocacy and more to support communities that have been systemically marginalized.

The One Percent Project provided a $5,000 grant to support Don’t Shoot Portland’s mission to maintain free and low-barrier programming to keep resources accessible to all.

TAKING OWNERSHIP PDX

Taking Ownership PDX is dedicated to supporting Portland’s Black community by retaining, renovating, and reviving Black-owned homes and deflecting gentrification. Taking Ownership is turning the tide on deliberate historical racism with a commitment to impactful grassroots change.

The One Percent Project provided Taking Ownership PDX a $10,000 grant to support their charge.


BLANCHET HOUSE

Blanchet House is a non-profit social services organization located in Portland, Oregon providing meals, transitional housing, drug and alcohol recovery programs, and support services to those struggling with homelessness and addiction. As a House of Hospitality, Blanchet House welcomes everyone to enjoy hot meals without question six days a week, three times a day.

The One Percent Project provided Blanchet House a $5,000 grant to further support their mission.


P:EAR

P:ear builds positive relationships with homeless youth through education, art, recreation and job training to affirm personal worth and create more meaningful and healthier lives.

The One Percent Project provided a $10,000 grant in support of P:ear’s impactful programming.


path home

Path Home, formerly Portland Homeless Family Solutions, provides shelter and support services for unhoused families across the greater Portland, Oregon area. Jessica Helgerson Interior Design was approached to help design their Family Village Campus - a permanent shelter space that provides families with access to services, classes, and supplies while they work toward securing long term housing.

The One Percent Project provided a $40,000 grant to fund the project and over 800 pro-bono hours of interior design work. Using concepts from trauma-informed design, the remodeled space is grounded in safety, accessibility, flexibility, connectivity, inclusion, health, and healing.


Community Warehouse

Community Warehouse collects donated home goods and works with social service agencies to get those goods in the hands of those who need them most. At the beginning of 2019, Community Warehouse was picking up and delivering goods with only one truck. For an organization that serves over 7,000 people annually, that truck was in high demand!

In June 2019, The One Percent Project was able to give Community Warehouse $150,000, the largest single grant they have ever received, to fund a new truck and driving staff.


Street Roots

Street Roots publishes a weekly newspaper sold by people experiencing homelessness; giving them a source of income. Due to the poor air quality from wild fires in September 2020, Street Roots had to suspend the paper's print edition for one week which amounted to $13,000 in lost income for the paper’s vendors. The One Percent Project was one of 620 donors that responded to the organization’s call for help with a $5,000 grant. The organization was able to raise $35,000 in less than 48 hours.
